heart.

Kathy Childress is a 3rd generation artisan from Clinton, SC. Her grandfather was a woodworker, her father a master knifemaker, and she carries on the family tradition by creating beautiful glass art. Each piece of Kathy’s handcrafted glass work is unique. She cuts and breaks the glass sheets to create the shapes and designs that come to life once they’re fired in the kiln. The finished product is beautiful, and it represents so much more than simply functional art. It’s her way of honoring the legacy and memory of her grandfather and father.

“I take all these broken pieces of my heart and I break glass. I break it, put it back together, fire it in a kiln and then I wait. I wait for those little broken pieces of my heart to come out into something whole. I have too many broken pieces to ever make whole again, most likely, so I will just do a piece at a time.”

Hopefully you’ll find the right piece of Kathy’s glass art that touches your heart.
